Wood & Leather Samples
Maples:
Ambrosia Maple: comes from regular soft maple trees that have been infested by the ambrosia beetle. The small beetle bores a network of tunnels and short galleries called cradles. A fungus is responsible for the black and gray streaks that accompany each tunnel and adjacent wood. The streaks add a unique look to this hardwood without affecting its structural integrity. This wood is mostly found in the central part of Eastern United States.

Note: when purchasing a wood accessories or furniture made from ambrosia maple, it comes in many different patterns and colors. Example: if you look at the markings on a wood accessories, there will never be another one just like it, but all pieces can still have striking characteristics. Some can be intense and others more muted.

Birdseye Maple: is a term used for the natural occurrence of grain deviation in some hard maple trees. The appearance of little eyes in the wood is a genetic growth defect. It is mostly found in North East United States and Canada
Quilted Maple: What causes the quilted effect in maple? Well lets just say that it is the internal expression of a tree in which rectangular figures form as a result of the coalescence of the tangential surface within. Or maybe you prefer this one, " It’s a freak of nature." Some of the finest quilted maple is used in musical instruments.
Curly Soft Maple: occurs naturally in 2-5% of all maple trees. This wood is mostly found in Eastern United States, Canada and Pacific NW.
Ash: has a grain pattern favoring oak. It is elastic, and hard, and has excellent shock-resistance. This wood is harvested in North America.
Bubinga: Found in Central Africa, bubinga is also known as African Rosewood. It can have beautiful rosewood graining when flat sawn.
Cherry: Early settlers in the Appalachian Mountains brewed potent liquor from the dark purple berries. Beginning in New England years ago, cherry is still considered the classic furniture wood. The cherry our woodshop uses comes from Indiana and Pennsylvania.
Lacewood: European lacewood is known as "plane" and is related to the American sycamore (platanus occidentalis) .
Walnut: Ancient Romans loved the meaty nuts from the walnut tree. Years later in America, craftsmen worked the dark wood into heirloom pieces. It continues to be a hallmark of tradition today.
  • Please note that our shop is not limited to the woods listed on this page. We have access to other woods, both domestic and exotic. Colors of the samples on this page may not be an exactly like the actual wood. On custom work, Haley Daniels can provide an actual finished sample if requested.
Leather Samples (Seating Material)

The colors of leather available are: burgundy, chocolate, medium brown and black. Haley Daniels can offer other seating materials upon request.

In 1997, the idea of a handwoven leather seat was conceived by Haley Daniels. I consider it to be one of the best idea's in the history of our business. It is the choice of seating of nearly 100% of our customers, whether it be a rocking chair, dining chair or a stool.

The 5/6 oz Full hides are sliced into 5/8 wide strips with the edges painted black. Before the leather is woven around the frame, two inch wide seat belt material is stretched tautly on the frame from front to back. This keeps the leather from stretching. A layer of extra firm foam is placed on top of seat belt before the leather is woven around it. With this method, the finely woven leather will give you many years of wear and beauty.

Our hand-woven leather seats gives you a rich look that fits into more home decors than any other seating material available. Leather is a true representation of comfort, strength and beauty.
